For Old or Modern H-16's
While newer
flat-bottom Bolexes (Rex-3 and up, above s/n 202,501 of 1963) give the most firm
attachment, the motor can also be used with fine results with much older cameras. The
TXM-26 should fit nearly all clockwork Bolex cameras, except those from the 1940's with an
external frame counter. The 8-frame shaft is driven through a flexible coupling.
Five HMI Speeds
Six speeds in all,
from 7.5 to 48 FPS (frames per second.) The speeds include 7.5, 12, 15, 24, 30 and 48 FPS.
All except 48 are HMI Safe for filming without flicker under 60 Hz powered HMI or
fluorescent lights. A red sync alarm light shows if speed is lost. Speed accuracy is ±3
ppm or .0003%.
NOTE: for European speeds, add the accessory TEC-26 control listed below.
External Speed Control
You can connect the
TCS Milliframe Controller model TMC and choose from some 45,000 speeds between about 5 and
50 FPS. Pick 23.976 or 29.970 for filming music videos for Rank/Bosch video transfer in
sync with CD, DAT or Hi-Fi audio. Pick a weird speed for filming from computer monitors.
(Please refer to the instructions.) Changeover requires that the speed dial on the TXM-26
be set to 48, to get the correct speeds. The TMC2 Milliframe can also be used for control,
but its footage counter will not advance. For the 23.976 and 29.970 speeds only, you can
choose the low-pricedVideoframe Controller. For the European speeds, add the accessory
TEC-26 control listed below.
Attachment & Power
The TXM-26 attaches
with the two 3/8" tripod screws to the bottom of newer flat-base model cameras. For
older pillar-base models, a winding handle screw helps to stabilize the camera. Two posts
facing the camera body give extra sideways mechanical support. New 3/8" and 1/4"
tripod threads with anti-swiveling slots are provided, to suit tripods and handgrips.
The TXM-26 runs on 12.6 volts DC, through an industry-standard XLR 4-pin connector. A
power socket accommodates either model of magazine take-up motor, MM or WM. 48 FPS and up
may require a freshly charged battery (13.8 to 14.8 volts) for reliable running. Uses
about 1 to 2 amps of current.
The TXM-26 is priced at $695.
European Speeds: The accessory Tobin
Euroframe Controller TEC-26 is designed to be used with the TXM-26 motor. Plugging it in,
the speeds on the motor speed dial become 7.5, 12.5, 15, 25, 30 and 50 FPS. Of these,
12.5, 25 and 50 are HMI safe for 50 Hz powered HMI and fluorescent lights. A freshly
charged battery may be needed to reliably reach 50 FPS.
The TEC-26 is priced at $99. The mini-sized unit is shown at bottom right.
Takeup Motor Cable for MM motor: TXM-26 to MM cable is priced at $39.
Recommended Accessories: Battery Belt. AC Power Supply.
