ON SCREEN ACTING by Edward and Jean Porter Dmytryk 1935 was an auspicious year for Hollywood. It saw the first film of talented young actress Jean Porter ( song and Dance Man, from 20th Century-Fox) and the directorial debut of Edward Dmytryk, with his independent production of The Hawk. Porter went on to act in more than thirty films, and Dmytryk to direct more than fifty, including The Young Lions and The Caine Mutiny. Porter and Dmytryk met when he directed here in Till the End of Time. It was "love at first sight," and they were married in 1948. In the following years, Porter worked casually but concentrated on family, while Dmytryk directed some of his biggest hits. In 1978, he retired from directing and turned to teaching and writing. |
